The Foote School seeks a talented, energetic individual to join its faculty as a full-time Lower School Head Teacher. The Foote School is an independent K–9 all-gender day school in New Haven, Connecticut. We believe children learn best when meaningful challenge is balanced with time to be children, so our days combine experiential learning, thoughtful inquiry, and space to grow.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design and deliver high-quality, engaging, and developmentally appropriate instruction that meets the academic, social, and emotional needs of all studentsDifferentiate instruction to support individual student needs
- Assess student progress and complete reports
- Communicate regularly with parents and lead conferences
- Work collaboratively as a member of the Lower School Division and grade-level colleagues to align curriculum across grade levels
- Mentor and supervise an Associate Teacher
- Assist in Admissions efforts
- Participate meaningfully in school life beyond the classroom, including committee work, school events, and assigned duties (e.g., dismissal and greeting, advising, or recess coverage), contributing to a positive and collaborative school culture
Professional Skills and Personal Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree strongly preferred
- Minimum 3 years of head teaching experience
- Experience with project-based and hands-on learning
- Demonstrated experience in differentiating instruction
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Proficient at designing and using assessments to guide instruction
- Demonstrated commitment to professional learning and innovation
- Commitment to best practice as it relates to diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Skills needed to mentor and supervise an Associate Teacher

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a full-time, 10-month, salaried exempt position. The school year hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., with summers and school holidays off.
