The Foote School is seeking a Learning Support Program Teacher beginning in late August 2026. The Foote School is an independent K-9 all gender day school in New Haven, Connecticut.  We believe children learn best when meaningful challenges are balanced with time to be children, so our days combine experiential learning, thoughtful inquiry, and space to grow.

They should be able to communicate effectively with students, parents, and peers as well as be able to employ a variety of instructional techniques to engage learners. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized learning support for students based on their educational needs
  • Monitor progress for students receiving learning support.
  • Collaborate and communicate with teachers and parents of students regarding learning support.
  • Assist faculty in the implementation of appropriate accommodations and provide professional development as needed.
  • Share information about appropriate research-based teaching and learning methods with faculty and parents.
  • Support the Admissions Department in assessing and scoring candidates
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head of School

Professional Skills and Personal Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Education and/or Special Education; Master's degree is preferred.
  • Proven training and experience in the Orton-Gillingham and/or the Wilson Methods preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Comfort with a variety of technological applications (Google Suite, Veracross)
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and work effectively with personnel, students, and families
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible and embrace change in support of the organization’s mission and goals
  • Maintain confidentiality of all school information
  • Appreciate diversity and demonstrate cultural competence
  • Joy for life, trustworthy, kind, and approachable, sense of humor, and morally upstanding

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a full-time, 10-month, salaried exempt position. The school year hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., with summers and school holidays off.
