Position Summary:

The Foote School seeks a talented, energetic individual to join its faculty as a middle school (grades 6-9) science teacher. Foote’s middle school aims to provide students with age-appropriate experiences that both challenge and support them, and develops academic and personal skills. The science program at the Foote School reflects values that are at the core of the school’s mission; we encourage discovery through inquiry, exploration, and experimentation, and we facilitate connections to our local and global community. We encourage our students to think critically and creatively, collaborate with their peers, and emphasize the importance of the learning process.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in science instruction and should demonstrate a passion for the subject along with flexibility, creativity, and a deep interest in supporting the development of young people.  

Essential Duties & Requirements:

  • Plan and present lessons.
  • Prepare and administer regular and varied assessments of student learning.
  • Complete trimester reports of students learning and recommendations as needed.
  • Communicate effectively in support of each student with their parents, advisor, and other teachers.
  • Performance of other duties as may reasonably be assigned by the School

Professional Skills and Personal Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or a closely related field; master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching middle school science
  • A passion for learning and for sharing knowledge with others. 
  • A familiarity with age-appropriate science activities, experiments, and experiences 
  • A strong interest in developing curriculum for early adolescents 
  • Ability to sustain and enhance scientific writing assignments
  • An ability and a willingness to adjust instruction and assessment to reflect the needs of individual students.
  • Experience and interest in teaching that honors different kinds of intelligence and values a variety of assessment tools - hands-on projects, student-designed experiments, creative and engaging engineering and design projects, and student-directed activities
  • An ability and a willingness to teach at a level from Grade 6 through Grade 9.
  • Experience with integrating technology into a science curriculum.
  • An appreciation for or interest in independent school education and the middle school years.
  • The ability to work closely with colleagues in your content area and across content areas when developing interdisciplinary projects and creating experiences that develop important scientific skills
  • A commitment to professional growth and innovative thinking.
  • A clear interest in being part of a community that seeks to challenge prejudice and is committed to diversity and inclusion.
  • Strong personal and interpersonal skills.
