Job Title: Horizons Summer Teacher
Location: 50 Loomis Place, New Haven, CT
Duration: Temporary (Seasonal-Summer, 6/30-8/8 with training beginning on 6/23/25)

Position Overview:
We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Horizons Summer Teachers to join our team for the upcoming summer session. The ideal candidate will be passionate about education, committed to supporting diverse learners, and skilled in creating a positive and inclusive classroom environment. Teachers will work collaboratively to deliver tailored instruction and engaging activities that align with our program objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that cater to the varied needs and interests of students.
- Deliver high-quality instruction in core subjects (e.g., reading, math, science) and incorporate creative enrichment activities (e.g., arts, sports, STEM projects).
- Utilize diverse instructional strategies and tools to facilitate student understanding and engagement.
- Foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect, cooperation, and a sense of community.
- Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback to support growth and development.
- Collaborate with fellow teachers and staff to enhance program programming and ensure a cohesive learning experience.
- Participate in professional development opportunities and contribute to team meetings and planning sessions.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and guardians regarding student progress and program expectations.
- Assist with administrative tasks related to student assessments and record-keeping as needed.
- Ensure a safe, organized classroom environment and adhere to all program policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development, or a related field (required). Advanced degrees or certifications in education are a plus.
- Previous experience teaching or working with children, particularly in summer or after-school programs.
- Strong understanding of various teaching methods, educational best practices, and differentiated instruction.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to inspire and motivate students while fostering a love for learning.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive teaching practices.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to the start of the program) is preferred.
Compensation:
- $6600 for the summer
