Art Teacher (Grades K-9) - Temporary Leave Replacement

The Foote School is seeking a temporary full-time Art Teacher from March 24, 2025 to April 25, 2025. 

The Foote School is an independent K-9 co-ed day school in New Haven, Connecticut. We aim to endow students with timeless values while providing thoughtful experiences that will prepare them to learn, lead, and grow in the 21st century.

The successful candidate will be a nurturing, adaptable person who understands children's developmental and cognitive needs and can teach collaboratively in a creative, cooperative environment. 

The successful candidate will have experience teaching a wide range of abilities and extending the curriculum to meet the needs of all students. In addition, he or she will be committed to our school’s mission and interested in being involved in our community through participation in school-wide committees and activities.

Essential duties and requirements:

  • Plan and present lessons for four grade levels in Lower School and Middle School
  • Prepare and administer regular and varied assessments of student learning
  • AM/PM drop-off/pick-up duties
  • Performance of other duties as may reasonably be assigned by the School

Professional Skills and Personal Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in art education or art or a closely related field; Master’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum 3-5 years head teaching experience preferred
  • Experience teaching art, preferably fine art to elementary and middle school-aged children
  • Proficient at designing and using assessments to guide instruction
  • Develop and teach fine art lessons based in art history
  • An understanding of child development and acquisition of motor skills and cognitive growth
  • A creative and well-organized approach to presenting activities
  • Flexibility and willingness to adjust plans to motivate the individual child 
  • A commitment to professional growth and innovative thinking
  • A clear interest in being part of a community that seeks to challenge prejudice and is committed to diversity and inclusion
  • Effective oral and written communication
  • Enthusiasm and a sense of humor, along with a flexible and collaborative approach
